How to find iPhone IMEI

Every iPhone has a unique identifier code known as an IMEI number. The letters IMEI stand for International Mobile Equipment Identity and in the case of an iPhone, is a 15 digit number used to identify each phone.

The IMEI number is used by mobile phone companies to associate a phone to their network so it can recognise who and what phone is making calls. It is also used to maintain a list of stolen or lost mobile phones, known as blacklisted phones.

If you're unlocking your iPhone you will need to know the IMEI number and the current network the phone is locked to. There are several different ways to find the IMEI of an iPhone and in this article we explain the 4 simplest and most useful ways of finding your iPhone's IMEI. Dialing *#06# to display IMEI

You can display the IMEI of your iPhone by simply dialing a code into your phone (as if making a call).

Follow these steps to get your iPhone IMEI:

  1. Open your phone app (as if about to make a call)
  2. Tap the Keypad to launch the Dialing Number Pad.
  3. Type: *#06#
  4. The IMEI number will display on the screen

IMEI in 'About your iPhone'

The IMEI number can be found in the iPhone Settings. To locate it follow these simple steps below:

On your phone:

  1. Tap on and open your 'Settings'
  2. Tap on and open 'General'
  3. Tap on and open 'About'
  4. Scroll down to locate the IMEI number

IMEI in iTunes

You can find your iPhone IMEI by connecting your iPhone to iTunes:

  1. Connect the iPhone to a Mac using the USB cable.
  2. Click on 'Devices' and choose iPhone.
  3. Make sure the Summary tab is selected.
  4. The IMEI is dispayed in the information.

Printed on the back of your iPhone

On some models the IMEI number is engraved on the back of your iPhone.

Look on the back of the iPhone and at the very end of the small text is the phone IMEI number. The IMEI is very small, be sure to read and copy it carefully.
